November 9, 2016. Guest Lecture from Prof. Douglas Christie and Ralph Black

Sunday, 27 Nov. 2016

On November 9, 2016, Department of American and Canadian Studies organized a guest lecture of Douglas Christie, professor of theological studies from Marymount University, Los Angeles, and Ralph Black, poet and co-director of the Brockport Writers Forum at the State University of New York. The lecturers talked about (micro)racism in contemporary American society as depicted in the award-winning poetic meditation by Claudia Rankine entitled Citizen: An American Lyric (2014). During the talk students spontaneously shared observations on the existence of racist prejudices in their own environments. The lively discussion that followed seems to testify to the importance and universality of the topic.
