Department of American and Canadian Studies invites for two workshops to be taught by Canadian specialists in drama and theatre on May 14th and May15th 2014, during Days of Canadian Culture at the University of Silesia.

1. Prof. Ric Knowles, University of Guelph, Canada.
"Indigenous Methodologies and Contemporary Scholarship"

2. Prof. Michelle LaFlamme, University of Fraser Valley, Canada.
"Land, Love and Ceremony: A look at Canadian Indigenous Plays (Rez Sisters, Ernestine Shushwap gets her Trout, Baby Blues".
May 15th 12:00-15:00

Texts to be read in preparation for the workshops are placed on hold at the reference library at Wydział Filologiczny UŚ (Sosnowiec, Grota Roweckiego) . Texts for the Indigenous Methodologies workshop are also available in electronic version to be mailed to interested students. Workshop participants will receive diplomas of a selected workshop completion.

Head of the Canadian Studies Centre: dr Eugenia Sojka

Canadian Studies Centre at the University of Silesia, founded in 2000, functions within institutional structures of the Institute of English Cultures and Literatures. The official launching of the Canadian Studies Programme took place on October 27, 2000, with an inaugural lecture by Prof. Nancy Burke and speeches by representatives of the Canadian Embassy (Michael Wooff) and the Head of the Polish Association for Canadian Studies. Prof. Anna Reczynska. The Centre is chaired by Dr Eugenia Sojka. Faculty members of the Institute interested in Canadian Studies are actively engaged in the activities of the Centre.
